Hampstead School is known for its promotion and success over a range of codes. We encourage children to take up a sport- to be involved, to enjoy, to maintain fitness and skills, to contribute as a team member, to play fair and to play for success.

Activities and Sports offered include;

Mini Ball, Netball, Tee Ball, Rippa Rugby and Volley Ball which take part in local competitions after school hours.

Athletic Sports

The annual Athletic Sports take place in Term 4. Those meeting a Standard are eligible to compete in the County Schools Athletic Sports. Those chosen then participate in the Canterbury Athletic day in Christchurch.

Cross Country

Students participate in our Cross Country (Fun and Serious runs) and are then eligible for County Cross Country in Term 2 which can lead to the inter-zone competition in Wellington.

Our Pool provides a fabulous resource for our Aquatic Programme. The children are grouped and taught according to standards. The County School swimming sports are held annually during Term 1 at the Ashburton Community Pool.

Swimming lessons will be taken daily in the Hampstead Pool from the beginning of the first term until the weather becomes too cold. Lessons resume in the fourth term when temperatures become warmer. Swimming is part of the school curriculum with all Children expected to take part.

Winter Sports Tournament

This annual event has teams competing against other schools from Ashburton in the main codes of Hockey, Netball, Rugby and Soccer.

* We also have a number of local codes that provide additional skill development these include: Tennis, Rugby and Cricket.

Ashburton College has a close relationship with our School - their year 12 Students visit in Term 3 to train our Students in small skill groups.
